How to clean the deck of your Z6 lawnmower

Follow these steps and you will have the deck of your Z6 mower clean in no time and with no fuss.

How to clean the deck of your Z6 lawnmower

It’s good practice to clean your Z6 zero-turn ride-on mower deck after every use to prevent diseases and to promote good garden practice, and that’s before we mention keeping good cutting, bagging and mulching performance. The EGO wash port on the deck of the Z6 makes cleaning the deck a breeze.

Using the wash port to clean the deck

Preparation

Before you start with the task of cleaning your mower deck:

  • Remove the batteries and safety key
  • Ensure the parking brake is applied. Double check by trying to push the machine before starting

You’ll need:

  • Hosepipe
  • Hosepipe end connector

Locating the Z6 wash port

The wash port on the Z6 mower is located on the top of the mower deck. See the image from the manual below.

Get started

Make sure your hose pipe is connected to a tap at the opposite end and your EGO Power+ Z6 mower has the parking brake engaged, and the deck height is adjusted to the lowest setting. Once these are taken care of, follow the steps below to leave your deck clean and debris free.

  1. Attach the hosepipe with end connector to the wash port located on the mower deck
  2. Pull the red switch to engage the blades and adjust the blade speed to the highest setting
  3. Turn the tap on and flush water under the deck for 1 minute
  4. After a minute has passed, push the red switch back down to stop the blades rotating
  5. Finally, turn off the water supply, remove the coupler and hose from the wash port

The impacts of neglecting your Z6 mower deck

Keeping your mower deck clean and maintained may seem obvious for practical reasons, however there are other consequences that are often overlooked. First and foremost, cleaning your mower deck will prevent the spread of contagions and lawn diseases, allowing your lawn to flourish and remain healthy.

A lawn disease known as Anthracnose is one of the diseases that can arise through mower deck negligence. Anthracnose is a pathogen that can affect lawns throughout the UK and Europe. It is extremely common and can be prevented by proper clearing and disposal of grass clippings.

Not cleaning your mower deck also increases the risk of introducing the disease ‘Dollar Spot’ to your turf. The fungus gets its name from its visible effects of small, circular, straw coloured spots.

Furthermore, leaving debris stuck to your blades after use will only encourage the debris to decompose and rot between uses. Instead, clean it off, add it to your compost bin, and avoid any overload issues in the future.

Are other EGO mowers as easy to clean?

Not every EGO mower comes with a wash port for cleaning. However, all EGO products have been designed to be user friendly and innovative when it comes to maintenance. Make sure to use a soft bristled brush, before using a clean, damp cloth to clean any other EGO mower deck.

The majority of EGO mowers, including ride-on and cordless mowers,  require the same basic needs to be maintained.

No matter which EGO mower you choose, whether that be a LM2135E-SP self-propelled mower or a LM1701E cordless push mower, each model comes with a comprehensive manual and maintenance tips can be found on our EGO news section of the website.
